Senior year is one of the biggest milestones in a young person’s life. After years of classes, homework, friendships, sports, activities, and unforgettable high school memories, graduation marks the beginning of a brand-new chapter.

As a professional photographer and a parent myself, this is especially meaningful to me. Some seniors want a classic studio portrait. Others want an outdoor golden-hour session. Some want to include their sports uniform, musical instrument, car, motorcycle, skateboard, dance outfit, graduation cap and gown, or something else that represents an important part of their high school experience.
A senior portrait session can also include several different looks. We can photograph something formal for parents and grandparents, something casual for the student, and something creative that represents their personality.
Years from now, these photographs become much more valuable than they seem today.
Parents will look back and remember exactly what their child looked like before graduating from high school and stepping into adulthood. Someday, those same photographs may be shown to their children and grandchildren.

Don't Wait Until the Last Minute
One of the best times to schedule senior portraits is during the summer before senior year or early in the school year.
Scheduling early gives students more flexibility with locations, outfits, weather, and sunset times. It also allows plenty of time to prepare photographs for graduation announcements, yearbooks, invitations, gifts, prints, and social media.
For Southern California outdoor portraits, I especially love photographing during golden hour, when the light is softer and warmer. If a student prefers something more modern or controlled, a studio session is another great option.
