Portraits of Courage During the GKN Aerospace Emergency

Living less than 1,000 feet from the chemical tank incident at GKN Aerospace was something our neighborhood will never forget. When reports spread that a cracked chemical tank had triggered a state of emergency and forced thousands to evacuate, fear and uncertainty quickly filled the streets. Sirens echoed through the neighborhood as local police officers and emergency crews worked tirelessly to keep families safe and calm during the chaos.

Even with the danger so close to home, I witnessed incredible bravery from the men and women protecting our community. The local police stood guard, directed evacuations, and reassured residents throughout the long and stressful hours. Wanting to honor their dedication, I captured portraits of these everyday heroes — the officers and first responders who risked their own safety to protect our neighborhood.

Photography has always been more than just taking pictures for me. In moments like this, it becomes a way to preserve history, courage, and the human spirit. These portraits are a reminder that even during emergencies, communities come together, and heroes rise when they are needed most.
